The Chardonnay is grown on a small vineyard nestled at the bottom of a valley in Tumbarumba close to the Victorian Border. The Maragle Vineyard sits at only 450 meters above sea level which in relative terms to the rest of Tumbarumba is low. This makes this particular vineyard one of the warmest sites in the area and as a result produces Chardonnay with power and intensity of flavour.
The fruit for the Gold Label Chardonnay was hand picked and whole bunch pressed directly to large French oak puncheons (500L) and fermented naturally. The wine then matured in these barrels for 10 months, then blended and bottled in February 2019.
This Chardonnay shows beautiful balance between power and restraint, complexity and finesse. The wine displays green apple and white peach aromas with a hint of slate or crushed rock. The palate is vibrant with restrained power and bright apple and citrus fruit. Barrel fermentation and maturation in old and new French oak has added a subtle complexity and length without overpowering the wine.
